Tata Sierra Legend Series: What’s New, Price, Features and Should You Buy It?

Tata Sierra Legend Series

The Tata Sierra Legend Series is not a new Sierra generation. It is something more interesting from a buyer’s point of view: Tata has changed the way you can choose a Sierra.

With the new Legend Series, Tata Motors has added 18 new variants across five trims, giving buyers access to features that were previously available only higher up the Sierra range.

Prices start at ₹11.99 lakh ex-showroom and go up to ₹19.49 lakh ex-showroom. The new trims are called Smart+ L, Pure L, Pure L(O), Pure+ L and Adventure+ L.

But there is an important detail that is easy to miss.

The Legend Series does not replace the existing Sierra lineup.

Tata continues to sell the existing variants, now grouped under the Signature Series. That means buyers now have two Sierra routes to choose from: the regular Signature Series and the new, more feature-focused Legend Series.

And that makes the buying decision more interesting—and potentially more confusing.

So, instead of simply listing every feature, let’s look at what the Legend Series actually changes and where it makes sense for a real-world buyer.

Why Has Tata Introduced the Legend Series?

This is probably the most important part of the update.

Imagine you like the Sierra, but the variant you can comfortably afford does not have a feature you really want.

Maybe you want:

  • a better infotainment system,
  • alloy wheels,
  • a panoramic sunroof,
  • ventilated seats,
  • a powered driver’s seat,
  • or a wireless charger.

Earlier, moving up the Sierra range could mean paying for several other features along with the one you actually wanted.

The Legend Series changes that equation by inserting additional feature-rich versions between existing variants.

In simple words, Tata is giving buyers more places to stop in the Sierra range.

That is the real story behind the Legend Series.

Tata Sierra Legend Series Price: How Much Does Each Variant Cost?

The new range covers a fairly wide price band.

Legend Series VariantPetrol MTPetrol DCTDiesel MTDiesel ATTurbo-Petrol AT
Smart+ L₹11.99 lakh—₹13.49 lakh——
Pure L₹13.79 lakh₹14.99 lakh₹15.24 lakh——
Pure L(O)₹14.29 lakh₹15.59 lakh₹15.74 lakh₹16.99 lakh—
Pure+ L₹14.99 lakh₹16.29 lakh₹16.44 lakh₹17.74 lakh—
Adventure+ L₹16.99 lakh₹18.29 lakh₹18.19 lakh₹19.49 lakh₹18.99 lakh

*Prices are ex-showroom, India. *

There is another number worth remembering.

The Legend Series generally carries a ₹50,000–₹70,000 premium over the corresponding variants on which these versions are based.

That makes the real question quite simple:

What are you getting for that extra money?

Let’s look at it variant by variant.

Smart+ L: The Sierra for Buyers Who Don’t Want to Stretch Too Far

The Smart+ L is the entry point into the Legend Series.

It starts at ₹11.99 lakh for the petrol-manual version and ₹13.49 lakh for the diesel-manual version.

Compared with the standard Smart+ variant, Tata adds several comfort and convenience touches, including:

  • Leatherette seat upholstery
  • Leatherette door pads and armrest
  • Steering-mounted controls
  • Auto-folding ORVMs
  • Roof rails
  • Wheel covers

This is not the variant to choose because it has the longest feature list.

Its appeal is different.

It gives buyers an opportunity to get a more finished-looking Sierra without immediately moving into the much more expensive versions.

For someone shopping carefully around the ₹12–14 lakh ex-showroom range, that matters.

Pure L: Where the Sierra Starts Feeling More Complete

Move to the Pure L, and the equipment becomes more interesting for everyday use.

It adds features such as:

  • 10.25-inch infotainment touchscreen
  • Wireless Apple CarPlay
  • Wireless Android Auto
  • Rear camera
  • 8-speaker audio system
  • Cruise control
  • Tyre-pressure monitoring system
  • Rear wiper and washer
  • 17-inch alloy wheels

This is where the Legend Series starts making a strong argument for itself.

Why?

Because these are not features that exist only to make a brochure look impressive.

A rear camera, smartphone connectivity, TPMS, a better infotainment system and alloy wheels are things you can actually interact with regularly.

For a buyer who spends a lot of time in the city, this type of equipment may be more meaningful than chasing the highest possible trim.

Pure L(O): The Middle Ground for Sunroof Buyers

Then comes an interesting addition: Pure L(O).

It sits between the Pure L and Pure+ L.

The major additions include:

  • Voice-assisted panoramic sunroof
  • Automatic headlamps
  • Rain-sensing wipers

The panoramic sunroof will obviously be the headline feature for many buyers.

But there is a useful way to think about this variant.

If you specifically want the sunroof experience but don’t want to pay for the equipment level of a much higher variant, the Pure L(O) creates a new stopping point.

This is exactly the kind of gap-filling that the Legend Series is designed to do.

Pure+ L: The Variant Where Comfort Becomes the Focus

The Pure+ L takes a different approach.

Here, Tata has focused more heavily on cabin comfort.

The additions include:

  • 6-way powered driver’s seat
  • Ventilated front seats
  • Thigh-support extension
  • Manual Boss Mode
  • Dual-zone climate control
  • Leatherette interior finish

For someone who spends several hours a day behind the wheel, these features can arguably have more everyday value than some exterior upgrades.

There is also an important powertrain change here.

The 160hp 1.5-litre direct-injection turbo-petrol automatic becomes available from the Pure+ L in the Legend Series.

So Pure+ L is not simply a comfort upgrade.

It also becomes an important entry point for buyers interested in the Sierra’s stronger turbo-petrol automatic setup.

Adventure+ L: When You Want the Full Feature Package

At the top of the Legend Series sits the Adventure+ L.

This is where Tata brings together a much longer list of equipment, including:

  • 360-degree camera
  • Frequency-dependent dampers
  • Terrain modes
  • Dual 12.3-inch screens
  • Front parking sensors
  • Reclining rear seat
  • Ambient lighting
  • Cooled glove box
  • Wireless charging

The important thing here is not simply the number of features.

It is that the Adventure+ L is aimed at the buyer who doesn’t want to keep compromising between comfort, technology and convenience.

But there is a catch.

At up to ₹19.49 lakh ex-showroom for the diesel automatic, the Adventure+ L is a very different financial proposition from the ₹11.99 lakh entry point.

So don’t look at the Legend Series as one single product.

The ₹11.99 lakh Sierra and the ₹19.49 lakh Sierra are serving very different buyers.

What About the Engines?

The Legend Series continues with multiple powertrain choices.

Depending on the variant, the Sierra is available with:

  • 1.5-litre naturally aspirated petrol
  • 1.5-litre turbo-petrol
  • 1.5-litre diesel

Transmission choices include manual, DCT and automatic options depending on the engine and variant. The naturally aspirated petrol makes 106hp, the turbo-petrol produces 160hp, while the diesel produces 118hp.

The important thing for buyers is that not every engine is available with every Legend Series trim.

So don’t shortlist a variant only because you like its features.

First decide:

Petrol or diesel?

Then:

Manual or automatic?

And only after that:

Which feature package do I want?

That order can save you from falling in love with a variant that doesn’t offer your preferred powertrain.
Choosing between petrol and diesel is ultimately about how and where you drive. If running costs are also a concern, our [CNG vs Hybrid vs EV vs Petrol guide] explains the key differences for Indian buyers

One Thing Many Buyers May Miss: There Are Now Two Sierra Lineups

This deserves special attention.

The existing Sierra range continues, but it is now grouped under the Signature Series.

The new Legend Series sits alongside it.

The Signature Series continues with variants such as Smart+, Pure, Pure+, Adventure, Adventure+, Accomplished and Accomplished+, while the Legend Series uses the new “L” suffix.

So you could potentially have two versions of the Sierra sitting quite close to each other in price.

That means buyers should not assume:

“L means the next variant.”

Instead, think of it as:

“L means a different feature package.”

That distinction is important.

Is the Tata Sierra Legend Series Actually Better Value?

This is where things become personal.

The Legend Series isn’t automatically the right choice just because it has more features.

Suppose the regular Sierra gives you everything you need.

In that case, spending another ₹50,000–₹70,000 may not make sense.

But imagine you were already planning to upgrade to the next trim because you wanted ventilated seats.

If the Legend Series gives you that feature without forcing you into the most expensive version, the additional amount could make more sense.

So instead of asking:

“Is the Legend Series worth it?”

Ask:

“Which extra feature am I paying for?”

That is a much better buying question.

Which Tata Sierra Legend Series Should You Look At?

There is no single answer because buyers have different priorities.

If your budget is the main concern

Start with Smart+ L and compare it directly with the regular Smart+.

Don’t assume the Legend version is automatically worth the premium.

If technology matters most

Look closely at Pure L.

The larger infotainment screen, wireless smartphone connectivity, rear camera and TPMS make it a more technology-oriented choice.

If you specifically want a panoramic sunroof

The Pure L(O) deserves attention because it introduces the feature without requiring you to move all the way to the higher trims.

If cabin comfort is your priority

The Pure+ L is particularly interesting because of ventilated seats, powered driver’s seat, thigh support and Boss Mode.

If you want the most equipment

The Adventure+ L brings together the broadest set of features in the Legend Series.

What Should You Check Before Booking a Sierra Legend?

Don’t make the final decision at the dealership based only on the variant name.

Take five minutes and compare these things.

1. Compare the corresponding Signature variant

The first comparison should always be:

Signature vs Legend

What does the extra money actually buy?

2. Choose the engine before choosing the features

A beautiful feature list cannot compensate for choosing the wrong powertrain for your driving pattern.

3. Calculate the on-road difference

₹50,000–₹70,000 sounds straightforward at the ex-showroom level, but registration, insurance and other charges change the final figure.

4. Check whether you will use the premium features

A panoramic sunroof looks great.

But if your priority is highway travel, comfort or running costs, other equipment may matter more.

5. Take a proper test drive

Don’t limit the test drive to five minutes around the dealership.

Try the driver’s seat, check visibility, assess rear-seat comfort and experience the gearbox in traffic if possible.

Tata Sierra Legend Series: The Interesting Part Is Not the “Legend” Badge

The name may grab attention, but the more important change is underneath the badge.

Tata has effectively created more stopping points within the Sierra range.

Previously, a buyer might have had to choose between accepting fewer features or spending substantially more for a higher trim.

The Legend Series attempts to fill some of those gaps.

At the same time, the expanded lineup means buyers now have more variants to understand.

And that is probably the biggest challenge.

More choice can be useful.

Too much choice can also make the buying process harder.

Should You Buy the Tata Sierra Legend Series?

If you are already considering the Sierra, the Legend Series is worth putting on your shortlist—but the reason should be the specific equipment you want, not simply the “Legend” name.

The new series starts at ₹11.99 lakh and gives buyers five additional trim levels with different combinations of features and powertrains.

For some buyers, the regular Signature Series may still provide everything they need.

For others, spending the additional amount for a panoramic sunroof, better cabin comfort, additional technology or a more comprehensive equipment package may make sense.

The best way to approach it is simple:

Choose your engine.
Choose your gearbox.
List the three features you genuinely want.
Then compare the Signature and Legend versions.

That will tell you far more than simply choosing the variant with the longest feature list.

AutoVerse Take

The Tata Sierra Legend Series is an interesting move because Tata hasn’t simply added another special-edition badge and changed a few cosmetic details.

Instead, it has expanded the Sierra’s variant strategy.

The new “L” versions bring selected premium features into lower and mid-level price points, while the existing Sierra continues as the Signature Series.

That gives buyers more flexibility—but also makes comparison more important.

The biggest takeaway is this:

Don’t buy the Legend Series because it has more features. Buy it if the features it adds are the features you actually want.

That is where the extra money starts to make sense.
