Mahindra Thar OG Launched at ₹10.32 Lakh: New Features, Engines, Prices and What’s New

Mahindra Thar OG Launched

Mahindra has officially launched the new Thar OG in India, giving its popular three-door lifestyle SUV a substantial update in terms of styling, suspension, technology, safety and off-road capability. The new Mahindra Thar OG is priced from ₹10.32 lakh (ex-showroom), with introductory prices applicable to deliveries until November 30, 2026.

The updated Thar continues to retain its familiar three-door design and rugged character, but Mahindra has made several important changes underneath the skin. Deliveries of the new Thar OG are scheduled to begin from October 11, 2026.

Mahindra Thar OG: What’s New?

The biggest changes to the Thar OG are not limited to its exterior design. Mahindra has introduced a new M_Glyde 4G platform, revised suspension hardware, electric power steering and new off-road technology.

The SUV gets DAVINCI Damping with Frequency Dependent Damping (FDD), which is designed to improve ride comfort while maintaining the Thar’s off-road ability. The suspension and steering updates are also aimed at making the SUV easier to drive in everyday conditions.

The Thar OG also gets an Electronic Locking Differential and dedicated terrain modes for conditions such as mud, sand and snow. These features are available on the 4WD versions of the LXT and ZXT variants.

Exterior Design

Visually, the Thar OG gets a more modern interpretation of the familiar Thar design.

The front-end changes include a new five-slat grille, full-LED headlamps, redesigned bumpers and an updated Thar logo placement. The SUV also gets 19-inch alloy wheels, giving the three-door Thar a more premium stance.

Other updates include LED fog lamps with cornering functionality and new LED tail lamps.

Mahindra has also introduced two new exterior colours — Artemis Silver and Jeans Blue — alongside six existing colour options.

Interior and Features

The cabin has also received a number of updates.

The Thar OG gets Truffle Brown leatherette upholstery, a leatherette-wrapped steering wheel and a soft second-row armrest with an integrated cupholder.

Depending on the variant, equipment includes a 10.24-inch touchscreen infotainment system, colour MID, Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, cruise control, wireless charging, electrically adjustable ORVMs, rear AC vents, rear demister and a rear-view camera.

The higher-spec ZXT variant gets additional premium equipment, including 19-inch alloy wheels, LED lighting, TPMS, front parking sensors and upgraded suspension technology.

Mahindra Thar OG Engine Options

The new Thar continues with three engine choices: a 1.5-litre diesel, 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre turbo-petrol.

The entry-level 1.5-litre diesel produces 119hp and 300Nm and is available exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox and rear-wheel drive.

The larger 2.2-litre diesel now develops 152hp and 330Nm, while the 2.0-litre turbo-petrol produces 162hp and 330Nm. Both larger engines are available with six-speed manual and six-speed torque-converter automatic transmissions, depending on the variant.

The 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol can also be specified with four-wheel drive.

Mahindra Thar OG Price and Variants

The new Thar OG is available in three variants — AXT, LXT and ZXT.

Variant Starting Price*
Thar OG AXT ₹10.32 lakh
Thar OG LXT ₹12.99 lakh onwards
Thar OG ZXT ₹13.99 lakh onwards
Top-spec ZXT 4WD AT ₹18.99 lakh

*Ex-showroom, introductory prices. The complete range extends from ₹10.32 lakh to ₹18.99 lakh depending on engine, transmission and drivetrain. Introductory prices are valid for deliveries until November 30, 2026.

The 1.5-litre diesel is restricted to the AXT, LXT and ZXT in RWD manual configurations, while the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol are available in higher trims with RWD and 4WD combinations.

Safety Gets a Major Upgrade

Safety is another area where Mahindra has significantly upgraded the three-door Thar.

The Thar OG gets six airbags, including four HPTS airbags for additional protection of occupants. It also gets four-wheel disc brakes, ESP with rollover mitigation and front parking sensors on higher variants.

The addition of these features makes the Thar OG considerably better equipped than the earlier three-door model.

Mahindra Thar OG: Is It a Significant Update?

The Thar OG is more than a cosmetic facelift. Mahindra has focused on areas that matter to both off-road enthusiasts and everyday users.

The combination of new platform technology, revised suspension, electric power steering, more powerful engines, terrain modes and an electronic locking differential addresses some of the practical limitations of the previous model.

At the same time, the updated interior, improved safety equipment and additional technology make the three-door Thar more suitable for buyers who want to use it regularly rather than only as an adventure vehicle.

The AutoVerse Take

The Mahindra Thar OG retains the design and character that made the three-door Thar popular while introducing meaningful mechanical and equipment upgrades.

With prices starting at ₹10.32 lakh, the Thar OG continues to occupy an interesting position for buyers looking for a lifestyle SUV with genuine off-road capability. The higher variants, meanwhile, offer considerably more equipment and the option of powerful petrol and diesel engines with 4WD.

The real test will be how the new suspension, electric steering and improved NVH translate into everyday driving. However, on paper, the Thar OG brings several of the upgrades buyers have been expecting from Mahindra’s iconic three-door SUV.
