Tata Expands BaaS to Entire EV Range: Tiago to Harrier Now Get Lower Upfront Prices

Tata Expands BaaS to Entire EV Range

Tata Motors has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme to its entire electric car portfolio, bringing the option to buy a Tata EV at a significantly lower upfront price. From the Tiago.ev to the Harrier.ev, buyers can now finance the car and battery separately.

Buying an electric car has always come with one obvious challenge: the battery is expensive.

Even when the running cost of an EV is lower than a petrol or diesel car, the initial purchase price can make a potential buyer pause. Tata Motors now wants to address exactly that hesitation with a financing model that separates the cost of the car from the cost of its battery.

Tata.ev has expanded its Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) programme across its entire electric vehicle portfolio in India. The scheme, which was previously available on the Tiago.ev and Punch.ev, now covers the Nexon.ev, Curvv.ev, Sierra.ev and Harrier.ev as well.

And the headline numbers are certainly interesting.

Under BaaS, the Tata Tiago.ev starts at ₹4.69 lakh, while the flagship Harrier.ev can be bought at an upfront vehicle price of ₹14.49 lakh. But there is an important catch: these are not the complete prices of the EVs. The battery is financed separately, with an additional battery usage/financing cost.

So, how does it actually work?

What Is Tata’s BaaS Model?

Think of BaaS as splitting an EV purchase into two parts.

Instead of paying for the car and battery together, the customer finances them separately. The vehicle gets one loan account, while the battery gets a separate financing arrangement with its own tenure.

This significantly reduces the upfront acquisition cost of the car.

The battery financing amount depends on factors such as the battery capacity, down payment and selected loan tenure. Tata has partnered with multiple financiers for the programme, giving customers different financing options, subject to approval and applicable terms.

The important thing is that the vehicle itself does not become a stripped-down version under BaaS.

Tata says customers opting for the programme receive the same product, technology and ownership support. The difference is essentially in how the EV is financed.

Tata EV BaaS Prices: From Tiago to Harrier

Here is how the starting prices look under the new BaaS structure:

ModelBatteryRegular Starting PriceBaaS Vehicle PriceBattery Cost
Tiago.ev19 kWh₹6.99 lakh₹4.69 lakh₹2.6/km
Punch.ev30 kWh₹9.79 lakh₹6.59 lakh₹2.6/km
Nexon.ev45 kWh₹14.34 lakh₹8.99 lakh₹4.4/km
Curvv.ev55 kWh₹17.19 lakh₹10.99 lakh₹5/km
Sierra.ev63 kWh₹18.79 lakh₹11.99 lakh₹5.5/km
Harrier.ev65 kWh₹21.79 lakh₹14.49 lakh₹5.9/km

The quoted prices are for entry-level variants. Tata’s indicated battery costs are based on specified daily-use assumptions—60 km per day for most models and 44 km per day for the Tiago.ev.

That means buyers should not simply look at the ₹4.69 lakh or ₹14.49 lakh figures and assume that is the final amount they will pay for the complete EV.

The battery cost remains a separate component.

Harrier.ev Gets the Biggest Upfront Reduction

The biggest difference in absolute terms comes with the Tata Harrier.ev.

Its regular starting price is ₹21.79 lakh, whereas the BaaS vehicle price starts at ₹14.49 lakh.

That is a difference of ₹7.30 lakh in the upfront vehicle price.

But the customer then pays the separate battery financing/usage charge, which Tata indicates at ₹5.9 per km under the stated usage assumptions.
