Mercedes-Maybach has launched the facelifted S-Class in India at ₹3.35 crore. Offered exclusively in S 580e plug-in hybrid form, the ultra-luxurious limousine gets 585hp, a claimed 98km electric range, executive rear seats and an even more lavish cabin. Only 30 units are available in the first batch.
There are expensive cars, and then there are cars that seem to belong to an entirely different world.
The Mercedes-Maybach S-Class has always been one of the latter.
It is the kind of car where the rear seat matters more than the driver’s seat, where closing a door is expected to sound reassuringly expensive, and where even a long journey is designed to feel like a private lounge on wheels.
Now, Mercedes-Benz has given its flagship Maybach something very relevant to the future of luxury mobility: plug-in hybrid power.
The facelifted Mercedes-Maybach S 580e 4MATIC has been launched in India at ₹3.35 crore (ex-showroom). More importantly, it becomes the first Maybach in India to feature a plug-in hybrid powertrain. Only 30 units have been allocated for the initial Indian batch, making it an exclusive proposition right from the start.
And yes, this is still a Maybach. So “electrification” certainly hasn’t meant giving up performance or luxury.

A Maybach With 585hp
Under the bonnet is a 3.0-litre turbocharged inline-six petrol engine paired with an electric motor and a 22kWh battery pack.
The petrol engine develops 443hp and 560Nm, while the electric motor produces 160hp and 480Nm.
Combined, the system produces a substantial 585hp and 750Nm.
Power is sent to all four wheels through Mercedes’ 4MATIC all-wheel-drive system.
So, while the Maybach S 580e is designed primarily around comfort, it certainly hasn’t forgotten the “S-Class” part of its identity.
What makes the powertrain particularly interesting is the ability to drive purely on electricity.
Mercedes claims an electric-only range of up to 98km, with the car capable of travelling at up to 140kph using electric power alone. That could be more than enough for many daily urban journeys without waking up the petrol engine.
For a limousine of this size and weight, that is an impressive figure.

This Maybach Can Be Plugged In
The S 580e isn’t just a hybrid that charges its battery while driving.
It is a proper plug-in hybrid, meaning owners can charge the battery externally.
The car gets an 11kW AC onboard charger and supports DC fast charging at up to 60kW.
Mercedes also offers three drive modes — Maybach, Electric and Battery Hold — along with adjustable energy recuperation.
The Electric mode is obviously the one that will appeal to owners who want silent, zero-tailpipe-emission urban driving.
Battery Hold, meanwhile, allows the driver to preserve the available electric energy for later use.
It is a clever fit for the Maybach philosophy: effortless performance when you want it and near-silent electric driving when you don’t.
The Real Maybach Experience Is in the Back
Let’s be honest. Nobody buys a Maybach S-Class because they want to spend most of their time behind the steering wheel.
The rear cabin is where the real magic happens.
The India-spec S 580e comes with a four-seat layout, featuring executive rear seats and a full-length business console between them.
The rear seats can recline to 43 degrees, giving passengers an even more relaxed seating position than the regular S-Class.
They are also heated, ventilated and equipped with massage functions.
Then there are the details that make this more than just a luxury car.
The standard Rear Comfort Package Plus includes fold-out tray tables, wireless smartphone charging, rear ambient lighting and temperature-controlled cup holders.
In other words, Mercedes has designed the rear cabin around a very simple idea:
What if your car felt more like a private first-class cabin than a car?
Screens Everywhere, But Done Differently
The front cabin continues with Mercedes’ high-tech dashboard layout.
The Maybach gets the MBUX Superscreen, combining the central infotainment display with a screen for the front passenger. The driver gets a 3D display, while the system uses Maybach-specific graphics and rose-gold accents.
There is also an augmented-reality head-up display and navigation system.
For entertainment, passengers get two rear screens with wireless headphones, while the audio experience comes from a spectacular 31-speaker Burmester 4D surround-sound system.
This is one of those cars where the equipment list almost starts sounding excessive.
But that’s precisely the point.
Maybach isn’t trying to convince you that you need all these features.
It is trying to convince you that you deserve them.
Exterior: Bigger, Bolder and More Maybach
The facelift doesn’t completely reinvent the Maybach S-Class. Instead, Mercedes has made the familiar design more distinctive.
The most obvious change is the 20 percent larger grille, which gets illuminated detailing and the signature Maybach vertical slats.
An illuminated Mercedes star sits on the bonnet, while an illuminated Maybach wordmark adds another unmistakable touch.
The new headlights use Mercedes’ latest Digital Light technology, with three-pointed-star daytime running light signatures and Maybach-specific rose-gold detailing.
The car continues to be substantially longer than the regular long-wheelbase S-Class — by around 180mm.
It rides on 20-inch forged Maybach wheels, complete with counterweighted Mercedes logos designed to remain upright as the wheels rotate.
Even the wheels have been given VIP treatment.
A Cabin That Looks Like a Private Lounge
The interior is finished in Maybach-exclusive Nappa leather, with a crystal-white and silver-grey pearl theme.
The cabin also gets Manufaktur piano-lacquer trim, a Nappa leather roof liner and specially finished seat-back trim.
It is difficult to look at the interior and not notice how much attention Mercedes has paid to the smallest details.
The idea isn’t simply to make the cabin luxurious.
It is to make the passengers feel removed from the outside world.
And that is arguably the defining characteristic of a Maybach.
What Makes the S 580e Interesting for India?
The biggest change isn’t the larger grille or the new screens.
It is the powertrain.
Luxury car buyers in India are increasingly being offered electrified alternatives, but the Maybach takes the idea considerably further.
The S 580e allows an owner to use electric power for daily commuting while retaining a petrol engine for longer journeys.
That means there is no need to worry about finding a charger during a long road trip in the same way an EV owner might.
At the same time, the car can potentially complete many everyday journeys without using its petrol engine.
It is a very Maybach-like solution to electrification:
Keep the luxury. Keep the performance. Add electric driving.
Only 30 Units
Perhaps unsurprisingly, Mercedes-Benz isn’t bringing the S 580e in huge numbers.
Only 30 units have been allocated for the first batch in India. Bookings opened with the launch, while deliveries are scheduled to begin in November 2026.
At ₹3.35 crore, it is already an exclusive automobile.
The limited allocation makes it even more so.
Interestingly, Mercedes says around half of its S-Class sales in India are Maybach models, showing just how important the ultra-luxury version has become in the Indian market.
The AutoVerse Take
The new Mercedes-Maybach S 580e isn’t trying to be the most sensible car in India.
And thankfully, it doesn’t have to be.
At ₹3.35 crore, buyers aren’t looking for practicality or value for money. They are looking for comfort, exclusivity, performance and an experience that few other cars can provide.
What makes the new Maybach particularly interesting, however, is the way it approaches electrification.
A 585hp plug-in hybrid powertrain, nearly 100km of electric range, 60kW DC charging and an extraordinarily luxurious four-seat cabin may sound like an unusual combination.
But perhaps that’s exactly what the future of luxury cars looks like.
The Maybach doesn’t ask its customers to choose between petrol and electric, performance and efficiency, or technology and comfort.
It simply tries to give them everything.
And for the 30 customers who manage to get one, that may be the most important luxury of all: having almost nothing to compromise on.
